DUNEDIN NEWS.

[Pm Peers Association.j DUNEDIN, Maech 7. Mr J. Logan, J.P., father-in-law of Sir Eobert Stout, died this morning. At the Tariff Commission representatives from the fruit importers attended, protesting against an increased duty on fruit, and asking for a reduction on the same. What with damaged and bruised fruit the duty was equal to 35 per cent ad valorem ; New Zealand fruit-growers were not able to supply the demand. If they did, and packed it properly, there would be no occasion for an increased duty, as the consumers would prefer locally grown fruit. The Commission purposes finishing here on Monday. The local representative of the New Zealand Eifje Association has received twelve entries for the coming meeting, including Captain Smith, last year's _ champion. Some eight additional entries are understood to have bean sent direct. A few more are expected by post. A second shipment of live sheep was made to-day by the o.s. Banffshire. The first shipment was 120 ordinary freezers, and was sent by the Buteshire by Messrs Murray, Eoberts and Co., in joint account with the ship. The Banffshire took 250 heavy sheep from the New Zealand and Australian LandiCompany.
