CANTERBURY DISTRICT GRAND LODGE. The annual meeting of the District Grand Lodge of Canterbury was held at the Mission Hall, Colombo Street, Sydenham, on Wednesday. The D.G.P., Bro C. Torason, presided, and the District Grand Secretary, Bro H. D. Rayaer, andP.D.G.P. Bro F. W. Tenfold also were present. The following Lodges were represented: — Pioneer—. Bro J. B, Tulley, P.D.G.P., Bro J. Swinnerton, P.D.P., Bro J. Rose, P.D.P,; Hope of St Albans—Bro J- W. Hunter, P.Ai; Mistletoe—Bro M. Bailey; Lyttelton Hearts of Oak—Bro W. T, Barnes, P.S.; Anchor—Bro J. C. Hobson, P.D.P., Timaru—Bro J. S. Keith, P.D.P., and Bro J, Bouldea; Star of Ashburton—Bro J. Pauling, P.D.P., and Bro J. Neill; Perseverance Bro J. Hooker, D.P.; Oat of Sydenham—Bro Mauhire, P.D.P., and Bro Halbert. P.D.P.; Hope of Amberloy Bro E. A. Rogers; Efchelbert—Bro H. Nesle, P.D.P.; Star of Ano-lesea Bro W. Barfcram, P.D.P.; Ohofca—Bro W. Christmas; Trafalgar— Bro A. Pearce, P.D.P.; Ivy of Liuwood Bro T. Smith, P.D.P.; Old Oak —Bro Snmmervill. Bro W. T. Barnes was elected minute secretary for tho meeting. The President, in opening tho meeting, referred to the progzecs made by the Order during tho last six months, and welcomed the representatives. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the President for his address, and it was ordered to be printed in the annual report. Correspondence was read as follows: From the Sons and Du.ughte.is of Temperance; from tho Ancient Order of Foresters; from Bro Mackio, of the District Grand Lodge of the North Island, conveying fraternal greeting to the meeting; from the D.G.L. trustees, resigning their- office; from Mr Schafer requesting the Board So have a photograph of tho D.G.L. officers and representatives taken. The letter was ordered to lie on the table. The nomination of officers for the earning year took place aa under:—D.G.P., Bro W. Bailey; D.V.G.P., Bros W. H. Manhiro and J. Harris; D.G.S. (calary £27 6a per year), Bro H. D. Rayner; D.G. Treasurer, Bro T. Walker; D.G.Gi, Bro Hooker; Auditor, Brea Barnes, Hobson and Swinnerton ; Board of Management, Bros J. R. Tulley, Swinnerton, Hunter, Forsey, Hulborfc, B&rtcaiu, Penfold and Neale ; Judicial Appeal Committee, Bros Pauling, Harriot, Christmas. Halbert, Penfold and Hull. The Auditor’s report and the balancesheet were read, and after a considerable discussion were adopted. The Auditors, in their report, congratulated the D.G; Secretary upon tho neat and accurate manner in which the books had bean kept. In their remarks on returns, they reported that iu tho case of four Lodges dues had been incorrectly apportioned. They recommended that the Post Office Savings Bank book should be in the possession of the Treasurer, and not in that of tho trustees. Tho Board of Management, in its fifth annual report, congratulated the Order upon bo well maintaining its ground during the past year, which had been a trying ouo for all Associations depending for support on industrial classes. During tbs year 129 now members had been initiated, 14 joined by clearance, 209 by affiliation, and 105 made themselves financial, while during the same period 221 members had been returned tmlxuanoial, 15 left by clearance, 13 had died, 3 resigned, and 1 had been' expelled, the number of members financial on Doc. 31,1894, being 1198 as against 993 at the end of 1893. The D.G, Lodge funds had increased from £I3OO 18s 2d to £1770 18s Bd, and the total funds of the Lodges in the district from £ 10,655 14a Gd to .£13,719 18s Id, which must be considered as very satisfactory. Extended reference was made to matters of interest which had occurred daring the past year. After discussion the report was adopted. , A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Bro J. R. Tulley for his ablo report on hia visit.to Wellington on the occasion of the opening of tho District Grand Lodge of tho North Island,

Bros Tulley, Penfold and Eayner spoke on the interview with Bros Ryan and Brennan regarding matters connected with the District Grand Lodge of Now Zealand. Bro Keith also spoke on the matter. Bros Tulley, Penfold and Petrie handed in their resignations as trustees of the District Grand Lodge, The resignations were accepted • with regret, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring trustees. Bros Torcson, Gledhill and Manhire wore then nominated for the office of trustees. Alterations were made in the rules in tho direction of paying second-class train fares and board and lodging at the rate of 6s pc-r dey for representatives of lodges beyond Svo miles from the place of meeting, and also in the direction of further defining the powers of trustee* The election of officers took place with the following resultD.Q.P., Bro W. Hooker; Auditors, Bros Barnes, Hobson and Swirmerton; Board of Management, Bros Swinnerton, Hunter, Forney, Hulbert, Bertram, Panfold and Neale; Judicial Appeal Committee, Bros Pauling, Heriot, Hulbert, Christmas and Hull • Trustees, Bros C. Tomson, Gledhill and Manhire. The D.G.P. Bro C. Tomson installed Bro W. Bailey as D.G.IVfor tho ensuing year. Bro Bailey then installed the subordinate officers. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers. After tho close of the meeting the brethren adjourned for harmony, and spent a pleasant hour. The next meeting of the District Grand Lodge will be held at Ashburton.
