NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY SENATE.

The Senate of the New Zealand University met at 9.30 a.m. yesterday; present—the Hon C. C. Bowen, Professors P. Brown, J, M. Brown, Scott, Shand, Cook and Sale, Revs J. Paterson and W. J, Habeas, Rev Dr Salmond, the Most Rev Dr Cowie and Mr Hay. On the motion of Mr Hay, it was resolved —“ That the Senate, having considered the suggestions contained in the letter of Mr Izard, Law Lecturer at Canterbury College, cannot accede to: the request that text-books be prescribed or recommended by the University for the law 'examinations.” Professor Shand brought up the report of the Finance Committee, which wa« agreed to.
