ROAD BOARDS.

TAI TAPX7. An ordinary meeting of the Tai Tap a Road Board was hold on March 1; present —all the members. The Government circular regarding a Fair Sent Bill was considered, and'it was resolved-—" That this Board cannot see its way to mak« any recommendation in this matter.” Mr IV. Healey wrote stating that he would hold tbo Board responsible for damage to his land, owing to blockage of canal or main drain. The Chairman and Messrs Herrick and Leathern were asked to visit tho locality, and wero authorised to remedy any grievance in this matter. It wan received that' tenders should be invited to clean tho various district drains. Accounts amounting to £7 17s 2d wore passed for payment. LITTLE RIVER. A meeting of this Board was held on March 4; present Messrs Buchanan (Chairman), Birdling and Parkinson. Correspondence was received from Mr Hutchinson, asking that a road might be formed from the Summit Road to his land on Reid’s Hill. It waa resolved that the Clerk should visit the locality and report on this matter. Mr Parkinson tendered hig resignation as treasurer to the Board, and Mr White waa appointed to the position. The Board having inspected KAitnna main road bridge, instructed that it should be rodecked as soon as possible with V.D.L. decking. After passing accounts to tho amount of .£9l 11s 6d and transacting some routine business the meeting terminated. EYEETON. The monthly meeting of the Eyretoa Road Board waa heldon March. 4; present —Messrs Hopkins (chairman). Chapman and Giles. Unimportant correspondence was dealt with. Mr Ralph Wilson applied for leave to cart away tho material thrown out of the drain on the south side of Grigg’o Road. Granted. It was resolved that £2O should be written oil tho rent owing on Reserve Ho. 275 in consideration of improvements made. Mr William Wilson asked if the Board could deal with the old river-bed near his place, and was informed the Board could not deal with it at present. The Surveyor was directed to attend to a number of works. ELLESMERE. Tho ordinary meeting of this Board was held •on March 1; present—Messrs A. Chamberlain (chairman), E. Lochhead, W. Watson and W. M’Millan. Mr David M’Millau interviewed the Board ia reference to opening up a road to lead from Inwood’s Road to Canterbury College reserve No. 1183, or to connect Inwood’a Road with lyaahbourne’s Road, and extend it to tha Tamutu and Rakaiaßoad on the sea beach. The matter waa left m the hands of the Chairman and Mr Lochhead to take steps with the interested parties for securing a road seventy-five links wide. Mr David Scott interviewed the Board complaining of a dam put in Brookside Road drain. The Board decided to give notice to the occupier concerned not to interfere with the road drain, and to remove tha obstruction, A .petition was received from Mr A. R. inwood and fifty others asking for a general reduction of 20 per cent on the valuation of the properties on the valuation list of the Ellesmere district. The Board resolved to object to the whole valuation Hat, and to support a general reduction of 15 per cent, on the ground that the rateable value of tbo properties on the valuation list was now less by 13 per cent than when tho last valuations were made. Mr James Inwood wrote offering to give the shingle required for the low parts of Inwood’s new road. The offer was accepted with thanks. Tho following tenders were accepted :—Milltown Road, Mr H. Montgomery, at Is 2d per yard; Hight’s and Frompton's Road, Mr Francis Woods, at Is lid per yard; Lawbie’s Drain, Mr Thomas Winter, at Is 3d per chain. Tho Overseer’s report was read and considered, and it was decided to put in a concrete culvert at Triphook’a Stony Gully, and to take up a bridge at Warrington’s and construct a ford ia its place. Accounts amounting to £343 7a 7d ware passed for payment. TEMPLETON. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on March. 4; present— Messrs S. Bailey (chairman), W. Bailey, G. S’. Carpenter and J, Carr. Correspondence was read—From the Manager of tho Waimatariri water-race (in reply), stating that tho Council would only cut thistles on roads where they actually interfered with tho flow of water. Prom the Selwyn County Council, impressing upon the Board the importance) of destroying any tbisbU-s that, may bo growing on any of the roods of tho district. The Clerk was instructed to reply that thistles on roads were destroyed ouch year during January and February, and that tho only portion of roads now neglected in this respect was that between water-races and adjacent fences, and controlled by the; Council. From the South Waimakariri River Board, asking for fjc-rmission to erect gates <:V. lino; of proposed new fences where the ailin'*- intersected roads. Granted subject to the provisions ot tha Public Works Act, 1894. Unimportant business was dealt with, and accounts amounting to £IS9 13s 5d were passed £or payment.
