LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho fortnightly meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council was hold on Tuesday evening; "present—Councillor Webb {in tho chair), and Councillors Stinson, Illingworth, Pairman, Radcliffe, Owen, Cook, Brice, and Laurenaon. Correspondence was received from the Charitable Aid Board asking tho Council to remit the charges made for the supply of water and removal of night soil at the Orphanage. Tho matter was referred to the Water Supply and Sanitary Committees to report. An application from Mrs Leslie to be allowed to put down a concrete .step on tho footpath at tho entranco to her boarding-house was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Tha, report of tho Finance Committee recommended payments amounting to £IBB 18s 4d, end reported the receipts since last, meeting to bo'£l77 10s. The Works Committee’s report, dealing with a few minor matters, was adopted. The Foreman of Works reported that the men were employed on various works about tho town. On Friday night last an attempt h&d been made to burn down the • unoccupied cottage at Sticking Point, previously used by the scavengers. The budding had been noticed to be on fire by the scavengers during the night, and a few buckets of water had put out the flames. No clue could ba found as to who had lighted the fire. After one or two minor matters bad been disposed of the meeting terminated.
