The following; are the gold returns for the week Globe, 2300 zof amalgam from 85 tors, cleaning up; Keep-it-dark, 2330 z of amalgam from 235 tons, cleaning up; Big Elver, 1106 oz of amalgam from 100 tone, cleaning up; Hercules, 2510 zof amalgam from 86 tons, cleaning up; Progress, 4280 z of amalgam from 210 tons, cleaning up; Cocksparrow Dredge, 68oz of amalgam tor 139 hours’ work. The Times says: “We have been requested by the men engaged in mining ventures iu districts wide apart to bring their hardships under the collapsed cyanide monopoly to public notice.” It suggests that Government should test the legality of the patent, and says further : “ Y/hatever Government may do we adhere to our opinion that in a matter of large public policy, involving the whole mining industry of the colony, something ought to be done to compel those who levy a tax of from 71 to 10 par cent on the gross proceeds to justify their legal right which has been impugned successfully in a court of competent jurisdiction.”
