[Special to Peess Association.] LONDON, Feb. 28. Government insists that the Maori King’s cattle shall be killed on board, but will.permit the sale of the carcases. Many, wool ships are overdue, having fallen in with contrary winds. Short arrivals for the forthcoming series of sales will probably cause a strong demand from all centres for merino sorts, which are expected to advance 5 to 71 per cent; but cross-breds are not likely to improve. Makch 1. The Bank of England returns, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £34,392,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 68*66. Consols, 104*. Three months’ bills are discounted at per cant, market active. New South Wales 4 per cent inscribed stock 110, 31 par cent do 103*. Victorian 4 per cents 104, 3£ percents 98f. South Australian 4 per cents 108, 3£ per cents ,102£. Queensland 4 per cents 107, 8£ per cents 100. Tasmanian 3A per cents 100. West Australian 4 per cents, 112. New Zealand 4 per coats, 109; 3£ per cents, 10H. New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, 25s 9d, firmer. South Australian do 26s 6d, firmer. Victorian do nominally 275. New Zealand mutton, first quality 3|d, second quality 2?d. Lamb, average quality 4£d, finest quality 6£d. The frozen meat market ia very depressed. Hemp is unchanged, the market being flat and demand small. The cheese market is overstocked. Australian butter, choicest quality, is quoted at 94s t0.96s per cwt. Sugar Beat German beet 9s, market quiet; Java do 11s. No. 1 beat Scotch pig-iron, f.o.b. in the Clyde, 41s 3d, firm. Bradford hops are firm, and show an upward tendency. OTTAWA, Feb. 28. Canada is arranging to ship butter in the winter to Liverpool, Glasgow and Bristol, where cold stores will be provided. Government agents will be appointed to sell the batter.
