UNITED METHODIST FREE CHURCHES.
ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING.. .. The meeting resumed at 10 a.m. .yesterday. . Matters pertaining to:; the 'various ministers in the district were considered. It was decided to forward a letter, sympathising with the Rev J. Edwards, of Eeefton, in his illness. A similar rssolnfcioa was passed in regard to the Rev 8,. Macfarlana, and satisfaction at ‘ liia recovery was expressed. A deputation from the Christchurch Prohibition League, consisting of the Rev F. W. Isitfc, Messrs R, Clephane, J. Robinson and J. L. Wilson, waited upon the meeting, and urged that it should pass a resolution that no parson who was a member of a racing club or was interested 'in the sale of alcoholic liquors should be allowed to occupy any official position in connection with Christian churches. The Rev A. Peters, of Auckland, and jMr J. A. Flesher, responded on behalf of'ibhe meeting. ; The meeting went into committee ■to consider the third draft of stations. Eventually it was decided to taka the final reading on the following morning. Considerable time was then spent-i-in discussing the question of grants 'i to circuits, la the evening a Christian Endesivour Convention was held in the St Aaaph Street Church. The Rev J. Hoskitfg ipresided,aad addresses were delivered toy the Revs J. Beuning, J. W. Griffin and J. Wrigley. There was a good gathering, and the societies in connection With the various churches sent fraternal greetings. The meeting will resume at 10 ia.m. today. Shia afternoon a garden party will be at Mr Fleaher’e residence, Avebnry, Richmond. The concert g;iven on Thursday will be repeated next weak.
