SYDENHAM POLICE STATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l note that the Sydenham Borough Council is reported as wishing the police station—and it may be also a court of justice—erected anywhere but in the principal street. I find upon inquiry, however, that half the Council were absent and that those present were equallydivided, the Mayor giving his casting vote. Now it is to be hoped the Government will not be persuaded by such a fraction as this. We need tue police station in a public place. Then the people can see it and know where to go to ia an emergency. It is necessary to have the police station as centrally placed as the post office.—l am, &c., *SYDENHAM.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I notice that at the meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council last evening a resolution was passed to recommend the Commissioner of Police to purchase a section for our police station in some part of. the borough other than in the main street. Now, as several very suitable sites in Colombo Street have been submitted for approval, I, as a resident of Sydenham, wish to protest most emphatically against the ‘'hole and corner ” resolution mentioned above, as it has come to my knowledge that sites owned by people connected with the Council, but not ia the main street, have also been submitted. If such attempted jobbery is allowed, surely it ia high time a change was made in the personnel of the Council and its officers.—l am, &c., *A RESIDENT OF SYDENHAM,
