The cheese by the Gothic was landed in excellent condition. Tho market, however, ia dull.

The New Zealand hemp market is unchanged.

Sugar—German beet, 9s Hd; Java, steady, 11s 6d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 41s 7^d. Silver is worth 2s 3 7-16thaof a penny. At the sales scoured wools were slow of sale, with prices weaker. WASHINGTON, Jan. 26.

The American free gold balance has been reduced to 59,000,000d015. • Another bond issue is imminent. WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, Jim 26.

During the. week 34,000 bales cf wool have been catalogued at the local sales, of which 26,000 wore sold. Current prices are—Greasy 6-J-d to 7]J, washed 8d to lOd, scoured lid to I4£d per lb. BRISBANE, Jan. 27.

The imports for the year are valued at .£4,241,000, being an increase of £BOOO on the previous year; exports, £8,336,000,’a decrease of £587,000.

Ad per lb. Other descriptions unchanged. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is fairly active. The total quantity catalogued to date is 61,000 bales, while the quantity withdrawn amounts to 7500 bales. Wheat.—Market is weak. Spot quotations have declined 3d per 4961 b since last report. (Last quotations were 2-ds 3d and 25e 8d for average and long-berried per 4961 b respectively.) Babbit Skins.—There ia a good consumptive demand, and boat descriptions have advanced fd per lb since last report. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Limited, have received the following cable advice ; The Gothic arrived at Plymouth on the morning of Jan. 20, with her meat in good condition. The lonic left Capetown on the morning of Jan. 19.
