(Tsb Pbess Association.J , AUCKLAND, Jan. 25, . The Taupiri Extended Coal-mining Company has declared a dividend of Is 6d per share, and .£317 was carried forward to new account. Thov Auckland Gas Company’s report shows a steady consumption of gas, and notwithstanding the reduction in price the profit on the year's transaction was £2765. The directors recommend the payment of a dividend for the past halfyear of 7s 6d per share on the paid-up shares and 3s 9d on part paid-up shares. ' Intelligence, has been received that a young man named Kitchener, aged twentyfive, an accountant in the local branch of the National Bank, at Tauranga, which was upon the point of closing permanently, shot himself through the head in the bank about 2.30 p.m. He had just returned from lunch, and the clerk hearing the shot of a revolver in the manager's room ran in and found Kitchener lying in a pool of blood, a revolver being close by. A doctor probed for the bullet, which is still unextracted. The bank was to have closed on Monday. There is no suspicion of financial difficulties. The doctors have a fair hope of Kitchener’S recovery. He had been in delicate health, but appeared bettor since his removal to Tauranga, There is much sympathy with_ Mrs Kitchener, his mother, whose grief is great. She lost her husband and two children in a fire at Dunedin.
