TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL.

The athletic sports in connection with the Timaru High School were held on Friday. Mrs R. A. Chisholm and other Idaics provided luncheon, and the “old girls ” of the school gave afternoon tea to all comers. The championship medal was secured by E. Parr with six firsts, viz. Long Jump (17ft Sin), High Jump (4ft 9afin), 100yds (12-Jsec), Quarter-mile (SGfsec), Mile (Smin ll§soc), and the Steeplechase run' previously over the .fields near the school. A. M’Beath was second in the Long Jump, and first in the Hurdles (19|-aeo), in Throwing the Cricket Ball (77yds Ift 4in), and also in the 200yda Handicap. Most of the finishes were very exciting, although Parr was not pressed in the Quarter, and G. Healy, at 16yds, had a somewhat easy win in the Old Boys’ 200yds Handicap. The Strangers’ Race, 120yds Handicap, was won by E. Stone (Byds); P. Perry (12yds) and A. S. M„ Poison (3yds) being very close up. The laist two races were run under the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The arrangements wore well carried out by the boys’ committee and the masters of the school, aided by Mr W. S. Lindsay aa time-keepsr, and Mr C. A. Jefiierson aa starter. At the close the Venerable Archdeacon Harper (chairman of the Board of Governors), and the headmaster gave short addresses, and the prizes were distributed by Mrs Hogben.
