The protest entered'by the Uanterburycrew against the Wellington Club in the Ladies’ Plate race was dismissed, the winners having rowed in an outrigger in accordance with the roles. The balance-sheet showed that the regatta had been a financial success. /RECEPTION AT LYTTELTON. The Canterbury crews who have been competing at the Championship Begatta at flotMi,.aßd alsoat the W ellington Begatta, returned - home yesterday morning by the steamer The contingent compiled the Lyttelton Bowing Club’s Championship Your ; Samuels, of the Union Bowing Club, who,-with Crosbie, won the Chwpicnship fairs and Sculls and the denble sculling race at Wellington, and the Canterbury Bowing Club’s senior four who successful at Wellington, besides a whole hoet of rowing enthusiasts who had * been.ettspding the .regattas. There was a Urge cbnbouno of people on the wharf, and ••the steamer was Being berthed, the champions were heartily cheered. The Lyttelton Sowing. Club had a brass hand tied conveyance in attendance, and the ambers of the Lyttelton crew—Messrs W. BarkisSi J. Page. U. Page and A. Aschman, with their cox (I, Beeoroft) and Mr W. SamuelV- 01. the Union .Bowing Club /|f T Cresibie had remained in Wellington) were' ssatr*' in the conveyance and taken, preceded by the band, around the town. A large crowd of residents and others fellftwed, -and the procession halted at the 'Council Chambers, where his ’ Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Thompson), who was also seated in the conveyance, welcomed the, crew home and congratulated them on behalf nf the residents upon their achievement of again winning, the big •vent.
