CONFLICTING STATEMENTS. [Special to .Press association.! SYDNE/Y, March 29. The Premier, ia reply a question, said that he was making inquiries as to the condition of the New Australia scheme, and had already anttforised tho AgentGeneral to expend several hundred pounds, if necessary, to P a J people’s passages hack to the colony.
A seceder from New Australia writes that he left the settlement without falling out with anyone, as he saw trouble brewing. Mr Lane, the founder, had faulifcs, and in things like New Australia it was a big fault that he was not a leader of men and could not keep people together, " but,” the writer adds, “no man lives who wants to do more for his fellow-roan than Lane.” BRISBANE, March 29.
A New Australian writing to his relatives, states that ever since the settlement opened there have been nothing but rows and quarrels. One or two persons, be says, wanted to run the show, but half the people objected, and the matter ended by Mx Lane expelling three who persisted in. asking questions about things. The statement that the men were drinking he denies, and states that it was only an excuse to get rid of them.
