WESTPORT-CARDIFF COAL COMPANY.

The annual meeting of shareholder of the Westport-Cardiff Coal Company, was ' held last evening. The chair was occupied by Mr J. M. Hey wood. The report stated that Mr G. Broome, mining and ■civil engineer, had been. engaged as managing engineer, and that he bad.made an exhaustive exploration .of , the seams in the locality suggested as most suitable for opening the mine. V . After testing he had reported the existence of a seam of hard bright coal eighteen feet in thickness, of the best quality, and sufficient to meet all requirement* for several years to come.' The area thus proved comprised about 47 acres out of the 1792 acres included in the company's coal area. - Tenders " had been accepted for the various works, itid' r it was hoped that the- company would be in a position to ship coal by the endof ApfiL It was estimated that the total cost h£ the works and plant for sending .coal to market would be under £12,000, ■ and that it would be met by • calls amounting to about 15s per; share. The balance-sheet showed the receipts to have been £6121 5s Id, and. the expenditure .£5956 16s lid, leaving £164 8s 2d cash in hand and at the bank. -The Chairman, in moving the adoption of "the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the shareholders on the excellent prospects of the mine. The motion was seconded By Mr W. Harris, and carried. Messrs JJ'B. Fisher and J. M. Hey wood were re-elected directors, and £l5O was voted to the Board. Mr E. H. Fisher,jwgs .re-elected auditor, at a remuneration of £lO 10a per annum.
