LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Conned was held on Monday evening ;* present —> His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Stinson, Radoliffo, Schumacher, Thompson, Mitchell, Owen, Laurenson and Chambers. COBBESPONDENCB. Correspondence was read— From the Labour Day Demonstration Committee asking for the Council’s patronage at the sports on Dec. 18. It was decided to receive the letter, and that as many of the Councillors as could attend should do so. From J. Osborns, having reference to the new well at Heathcote Valley. The letter was received. From G. Agar, applying for red stone with which to build a wall in front of bis property in St David street. The request was granted. From a number of residents in Joyce Town, calling the. attention of the Council to the bad state of the drain close to their residences, and also asking that tho road might be put in order,—The matter was referred to the Sanitary Committee, to take action in the matter of the drain at once. From the Hon Secretary of the Railway Cricket Club, asking for permission to play on the recreation ground. It was decided to inform the Club that it had been resolved to close the ground until next year, so as to allow the work already done there to get perfectly set before any play took place on it. The Council regretted that it could not alter that decision. BEPOP.TS, &C, The Foreman of Works report was read and adopted. The report dealt with several matters of detail connected with the works in progress. It was resolved to erect a box for storing fire-hose on the Bridle path. The Finance Committee reported the receipts since last meeting to be £126 8s Sd, and recommended payments amounting to £250 7e. The report was read and adopted. The report of the engineer at the pumping station was read, stating that the supply to the town during the fortnight had” been very heavy. The Water Supply Committee was of opinion that a considerable waste was going on in the town, and the Foreman of Works was endeavouring to locate the waste, so that the offender could be brought to justice. NOTICE OP MOTION. Councillor Laurenson gave notice to move at the nest meeting—" That the resolution passed at the meeting on Oct. 30, having reference to putting twoflveiueh pipes through the tunnel be rescinded.” After dealing with some minor matters the meeting terminatad.
