Many of the Scotch miners are resuming work on the masters’ terms; The House of Lords by a large majority has agreed to the introduction into the Employers’ Liability Bill of a clause providing for workmen contracting themselves out of the provisions of the Bill. A meeting of the Committee of the Christchurch branch of the Amalgamated Shearers snd General Labourers 3 Union was held in tba Temperance Hall, Gloucester street, on Friday evening. In the absence of the Vice-president Mr J. W. Carter waa voted to the chair. A large amount of correspondence waa read by the Secretary from different sheds, and from the General Secretary, Mr O'Brien, Waimate. Various accounts were passed for payment. The Secretary was instructed to forward the congratulations of the branch to the following gentlemen on their election to seats in the House of Representatives, the branch recognising their valuable assistance in the cause of labour and of Unionism:—Hon W, P. Reaves, Minister for Labour; Hon Major Steward; Messrs J. W. Kelly, Invercargill ; T. L. Buick, Wairau; W. W, Tanner, Avon, W. W. Collins, Christchurch; G. W. Euuell, Riccarton; W. Hall-Jones, Timaru; J. A. Millar, Port Chalmers; W. Hutchison, Dunedin ; and T. Duncan, Oamaru. The meeting then closed. KNIGHTS OP LABOUR. The Rawhiti Assembly held its weekly session in the Druids 3 Hall, Worcester street, on Wednesday evening, the Master Workman presiding. Correspondence waa received from tha Dunedin, Napier and Hastings Assemblies; from the general Secretary, Philadelphia, the District Secretary, Palmerston North, and from Mr J. Burns, M.P., London. Copies of the journals of the Order, the Australian Worker and the Woodvilla Examiner, and • pamphlets on the currency and State Bank questions were received. The Secretary was instructed to reply to the various communications with thanks for the same. A discussion ensued on the Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Act, and it waa eventually held over for another session. It was resolved to discuss tha pamphlet on tha currency question at an early date. The recent bankruptcy ease was discussed, and the action of the Grand Jury in finding a true bill was thoroughly approved of. The question of coal mines and royalties was considered, when it was resolved to request the Government to nationalise sufficient coal beds to supply local requirements.
