CANTERBURY BOWING CLUB.
The Trial Double Sculls of fihe Canterbury Rowing Club waa decided on Saturday on the Avon. Results First heat: P. R. de Veaux and E. F. NTiooll beat H. F. von Haast and N. L. Bout. De Yeanx getting the batter of the start ebon established a lead of three lengths, wfrfch Haast reduced to a length at the finish. Second heat: L. Appleby and E. A. Roper beat T. A. Eovell aud B. A. Mairie. Prom an even start Appleby gradually drew away, end aided by crab-catching on the part of the other crew, soon secured a comfortable lead, which he held to the finish. Final heat: P. E. de Veaux and E. P. Nicoll beat L. Appleby and E. A, Eoper. De Veaux got away first, and rowing a fine lively stroke, had no difficulty in stalling off' Appleby’s plucky spurts, finally winning by a clear length.
