TEMPERANCE SOCIETIES.

The installation of officers of Welcome Retreat Lodge, No, 44, Geraldine, took place during the weekly meeting of members on Monday evening, the installing officer being Bro Baxter, L.D.; Ero Dalton, D.D, acting-as Marshal, ; and Bro Patrick, as Deputy-Marshal. The following were inducted into their respective chairs C.T., Bro E. Robson; \.T., Sister Deacon ; Secretary, Bro W. Maalin, jun.; Assistant Secretary, Bro T, Shenatt; Chaplain, Rev Bro Woodward; P.S., SLter Bowfeett; M., Bro 0. Pye; D. Jl., Sister Wallach; Treasurer, Bro Sutherland; LG., Bro E. Mackenzie; S., Bro F. Taylor; and Organist isiafcer Sherratfc. During the meeting fire cmdidates were initiated inti toe Ordex. This gives the numerical strength of the Lodge as sixtyeight members. Oa Monday evening a meeting under the au*piceaof theCustjtotal Abstinence Society took place in the lo&l schoolroom. The Rev D. D. E uiger presided. Musical selections were given by Mts& Sheat and Messrs Sheat, Smith and Clandge. Addresses were given by the Coairman, Mr P. G. Horreli and Mr A. D. Hasaall. General satisfaction was expressed with the Kueuessful carrying of the second reading of Sir Robert Stoat’s Direct Vote Bill. The monthly meeting of lire Christchurch Baptist Taoernacle Band O' Hope held on Mon ay even ng, Mr Battion in the chair. Too following ladies and gentlemen took part:—M.uses Taylor, Thomas, Webley, Putman and Bowen, Messrs Butterfield and Keir and Pastor Birch.
