The charge of malpractice against Caroline M’Govern came before the Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, Mrs Coleman, sister of the girl Guiuan, was put in the box,but refused to say more than, that she went to M’Govern’s house in company with her sister. Inspector Pander said that he bad been deceived, as the witness a few minutes before had promised to tell the whole truth. The Magistrate pointed cut that a pardon could be procured for Mrs Coleman, who could then be compelled to give evidence. After Borne debate the case was adjourned till 3 p.m. Isabella Guinan was then charged similarly. A written confession, signed by herself, was put in, and she was committed for trial. On resuming the case against Mrs M’Govern this afternoon, the girl Guinan was put in the box, but she refused to give evidence unless assured of a free pardon. Inspector Pender said that only a few minutes before she had promised to tell the whole story. Under the circumstances he asked for a remand. Mr Sherret objected strongly on the ground that no evidence had so far been tendered against Mrs M’Govern, but the Resident Magistrate remanded the-case till Tuesday.
