The announcement that the Indian Government will shortly put a loan of thirty millions of rupees on the market, has depressed silver stock. A South Australian loan is also expected at the end of next week. At the meeting of the shareholders of the Australian and New Zealand Mortgage Company, Limited, Mr A. Flower, Chairman,said that the Company had not suffered by the Queensland floods or by the depression in Australia. The dividend, however, had been reduced to 7 per cent. Measures were being taken to renew the Company’s debentures at the lowest rate of interest, and they had bright hopes of the future. Messrs Murray and Eicardo were re-elected Directors. The Association of Chambers of Commerce has by a majority of thirty-three rejected the proposal for reciprocal trade with the Colonies. Hon A. J. Mundella, President of the Board of Trade, in addressing the Chambers, said he was glad to see that Australia was gradually recovering from depression, and stated that the way in which New Zealand had paid her debts was marvellous. A Tasmanian loan of .£BOO,OOO at 3| per cent, with a minimum of 92, has been placed on the market. Tenders close on Tuesday next.
