IMPERIAL POLITICS.
[Special to Pbess Association.] LONDON, June 22. The Eight Hon A. J. Balfour refuses the request of the London Trades Council that Parliament should dissolve in time to permit of the poll at the Borough elections on Saturday. Messrs J. Dillon and Justin McCarthy visited Mr Gladstone at tbe latter’s request, and it is understood that Mr Gladstone’s assurances respecting Home Rule were of a satisfactory nature. The Imperial Institute will he informally opened by a conversazione. Objection is raised to H. M. Stanley contesting a seat in the British Parliament on the ground that he is an alien, and has not been naturalised. Lord Rosebery has resigned the Chairmanship of the London County Council. Mr Stead, in the Review of Reviews, discussing foreign affairs, especially as regards Egypt, declares that a change in the English Ministry would be a change for the worse. Mr Samuel Plimsoll has issued a pamphlet appealing to Nonconformists to support the Marquis of Salisbury at the elections. WASHINGTON, June 22. The American Committee selected by the Irish American Association to effect a reconciliation between the sections of the Irish party has sailed for England. It will not support either party separately, but will devote its efforts to bring about a reunion.
