TRAGEDY AT AUCKLAND .

A MAN SHOT. AUCKLAND, April 21. The particulars are to hand of a tragedy at Helena Bay, thirty miles from Kamo. The victim is Arthur Katten, and the perpetrator of the deed is Eobert Butler. Both men are foreigners and settlers at Helena Bay. The matter was reported to the police at half-past eight this morning. Butler was arrested soon afterwards. He admitted his guilt to Constable Moore. Ho stated that he had quarrelled with Katten about money matters yesterday morning, when Katten drew a knife aud stabbed him in three places on the chest, of which the man bears the marks. Butler then drew a revolver and shot Katten dead. A further investigation is now being made by the police. April 28. Eobert Butler, charged with the murder of Kattan at Helena Bay, has been committed for trial at the next session of the Supreme Court in Auckland. The prisoner was brought to Auckland to-night by steamer from Whangarei.
