OTAGO UNIVERSITY.
PRESENTATION OP DIPLOMAS. [Pee Pbess Association.] DUNEDIN, Sept. 4. The ceremony of presenting the diplomas gained at the last New Zealand University examinations took place this evening in the Garrison Hall, which was crammed to the doors. Sir E. Stout, representing the Chancellor, presided, and presented the diplomas as follow : —M.A., 7, including Miss Gifford, of Auckland ; 8.A., 17, including four ladies ; LL.B., 2 ; M. 8., 3. Speeches were delivered by Sir E. Stout, Mr J. M'Gregor (Chairman of the Education Board) and tho Eav Dr Stewart, who all received a fair hearing. Tho students had their orchestra present, and played the Dead March when reference was made to an undergraduate who died from cold caught after last year’s ceremony. The usual songs were rendered, four of them being original and appropriate to the occasion. There was an excellent caricature, illustrating a recent medical fracas. In front of tho orchestra was a student representing Father Time, with sickle and hourglass, she latter being duly turned when the speeches were becoming wearisome, and the speakers taking the hint. Sir E. Stout thanked the students for their excellent behaviour.
