VIGILANCE REQUIRED.

It is necessary in these days to be always on your guard against shoddy. No genuine article comes upon the market now but what hundreds of unscrupulous traders immediately commence to imitate and defraud the public by base and worthless imitations. This has been more especially the case with Clements’ Tonic than with any other article of commerce. The wonderful therapeutical power of this patent remedy has achieved such unprecedented success during the last two years, that there is scarcely a store but what stocks some imitation for salo to the suffering public, when the genuine article is demanded ; could anything ba more despicable ; is it possible to realise how debased and mean a man (who claims to be educated and a gentleman) must bo before he will trifle with the sufferings of unfortunate men and women? And all for the sake of a few pence extra profit; he knows perfectly well that he cannot make an article which would do one tenth the good in diseased organisms that Clements’ Tonic does. He knows that even while he is imposing on his confiding customer that he is doing worse than picking his pocket, for he is betraying the confidence which the patient places in him. It is impossible to realise anything meaner or more despicable; All ate not like this. Thank God there are honourable men who would scorn to impose upon their customers, but at the same time it is absolutely necessary for the public to he warned against the vampires who prey on the trust of their patrons, and it is the duty of every man to expose every case of imposition or substitution. An honest chemist will hand you Clements’ Tonic when you demand it. If he tries to sell you a substitute, shun him and warn your friends against him. Mr W. Simmons, Sandhurst, Vic., writes under date, September 19, ’9O :—“ Dear Sir,—For the last four years I have suffered great misery from nervous debility, complicated with liver and kidney disease; my water was scalding hot and very scant and muddy. I had sharp shooting pains all over my body, was very weary, always tired and languid, with no appetite and frequent attacks of vomiting and headaches. I rose in a morning more tired than when I went to bed, and was so constipated that I had to take the most violent cathartics. I consulted doctors without number and all without benefit, until my wife persuaded me to use Clements’ Tonic. The first three bottles did not seem to have much effect, hut after that I seemed to get relief daily and a three months’ course so completely restored my health, that now I feel as if I had been born again or translated to an entirely new sphere of existence. I was never so well before, and feel as strong as a lion, and can perform any reasonable amount of exertion without fatigue; you can easily understand how grateful I am to your wonderful remedy, for it is wonderful that it should have cured my case, which bad baffled the best medical skill these Colonies afford. Long live Clements’ Tonic! say I; others may doubt its value if they like, I HAVE PROVED IT GENUINE.” To be obtained from Messrs Cook and Ross, Colombo street, Christchurch.
