POULTRY SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The twenty-fourth annual meetfngof the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society took place in Hobbs’ Buildings last night. Mr E. Strange, President, occupied the ohair, and then waa a good attendance. A discussion arose on the reading of the minutes, concerning a case of disqualification, and the - course to be taken with respect to the payment of prize money to second prize-takers when the first placed bird had been disqualified. After soma conversation the matter dropped, it being understood that each case would be dealt with on its merits as it arose.

The Committee, in its annual report, congratulated the Society on its continued prosperity, and stated that the member* ship ,was now forty. The Committeo hoped that every fancier would do Me bestto introduce new members. The establishment of challenge oupaby breeders for, their respoctlve varieties would, the Committee thought, be very desirable. This course was largely followed at the present time at the leading shows in Great Britain. The report gave statistics for the last four years, and stated that, for quality,.the leading varieties of. poultry at the late show wore quite as good if noftbetter than at previous exhibitions, and would fairly hold their own'at any New Zealand show. It was an open question whether the Tnam street ball was the mostsuitable place for the show) the light there had caused a great deal of dissatisfaction among exhibitors. The Treasurer's statement showed receipt* .£Blllß* lOd, against .£402 4e 6d last year. The expenditure was £BO6 2a Bd, leaving a credit balance of £5 16a 7d. There were no outstanding liabilities. There had been a considerable decrease in the proceeds of the art onion, as compared with the previous year. The general expenses, outside of prize money, were, on the other hand, much less. Mr Thos. Gordon had resigned the office of Secretary, and Mr S. 0, Kesteven had been appointed in his stead* The Committee wished to tender its bell thanks to the executive who had assisted in various capacities at the late show, and also to the liberal donors of special prize*, whose assistance was asked for the future.

The balance-sheet, audited by Mr W. 0. Hill, was also submitted. On the motion of Mr W. G. Walker, seconded by Mr Oooke, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. ,0a the- motion of Captain Mather, seconded by Mr W. G. Walker, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr S. C. Kesfceven, and an honorarium of £5 6s was voted to him in recognition of the service* rendered by him as secretary. On the motion of Mr E. Evans, seconded , by Mr Clark, a hearty vote of thankswa* passed to the Hon. Treasurer, Mr E. S. lioversedge.

It was decided to ask. His Excellency the Governor to become patron oil the Society. The following officers were elected:-* Vice-Patron, Mr Joseph Gould $ President, Mr B. Craig, A, Garrick, E. W. Humphreys, T. Stapleton, Charles Lewis, B. Evans, B. Steele, F. Arenas, B. H. Rhodes, Dr Mickle, Dr Levinge and. theMayorof Christchurch; Seoretary.Mr S. C. Kesteven (re-elected); Treasurer, Mr F. J. Hibellj Committee, Messrs E. T, Cooke, L. Banks, A. Smith, S. Brooking, E. E. M. Evans, J. Jackman, E. Evans, J. C. Clarke, A. Clark, J. Ford,!. Hoult. and F. Dacre.

On the motion of Mr Cooke, seconded by Captain Mather, it was resolved—- “ That a three days show be held annually on the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in July,”

It was decided to recommend the Committee to purchase new pens. • A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring Committee, and a similar compliment to the Chairman closed the meeting.
