ST JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

The usual monthly meeting of th*Com« mittee was held yesterday afternoon la. the City Council Library; present—Th* Very Rev the Dean (in the chair) M<mk dames Julius, Hacon, Hulbert, Kinsey, Louisson, Mitsom, Nashelski and Webb, Misses Bowron, Pheney and Steele, Captain Garsia (Hon Treasurer), Messrs Hulbert, Louisson, Touch, Banks and Barker (Hon Secretary). Apologies for absence wet* received from Mesdamea Manning and Peacock, Messrs Jekyil,JMitchell, Manning, Smith and Webb. The Secretary reported the extremely satisfactory result of the men’s first aid and the women’s nursing examinations. The success of the men’s class might be largely attributed to the good effect* of the regular practice that had been kept on at the regular meetings of the Christ* church Ambulance Corps, under th® management, formerly of Mr J. Watts, and latterly of Mr J. B. Touch. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to the lecturers Drs Murray-Aynsley, Lomax-Smith, G. E. Deamer and Harrison for their excellent gratuitous work, and to Miss Steele for her valuable help in managing the arrangements at the Hospital and assisting the pupils at their practice. It was reported that the ambulance stretcher at Merivale parsonage had been placed ready on brackets in an open boggy shed, straight in from the road; and taa Rev C. Merton had kindly undertaken to see that it ’was kept ready and available in case of accidents. A case of first aid rendered was reported by Mr C. Stuart-Edward, A man bad fallen from a cart, And was severely cut) and braised about the head. Dr Jennings was quickly on the spot, and under mg directions Mr S. Edward applied the Eamarck bandage, and, with Constable Sinclair, placed the patient in a cart to ba. conveyed to the Hospital. Invalid trans-port—-Mr George Fuller, of the Fire Brigade, reported as follows; —" R. Crozier’s case: Lift accident at Nashelski’* —First aid rendered by myself and Lieu* tenant E. Smith, and patient removed on litter to Hospital; Miss Jones—Removed, from New Brighton to Hospital by mean* of litter in van. H. Ford, with broken. knee—Removed from Hill’s road, Opawa, to Hospital.” Letters were received from the Chief Secretary, London, and from the Blenheim, Dunedin,Kamo (Auckland) and Wellington branches, their contents being very satis* factory in showing the rapid progress being made.

The bank balance was shown to be £52 8s sd, and accounts were passed for payment amounting to £l6 3s 3d. Mr J. E. Touch gave notice of a motion, for next meeting—“ That arrangements be made to hold the annual ball of the Association this spring at the time of the Governor’s visit.” This completed the business.
