IMPERIAL POLITICS.

REPRESENTATION OP LABOUR [Special to Press Association.] [Eeceived August 11, at 1.5 a.m.] LONDON, August 10.

The Queen’s Bench refused to commit Mr E. "Wooten Isaacson. M.P. for Stepney, for contempt in refusing to answer questions in a bankruptcy case, on tbe ground of privilege. Mr James, Unionist, and Mr Holden, Gladstonian, have been nominated for the vacancy in the representation of Walsall, caused by the death of Sir C. Foster (not Sir B. W. Foster,- as reported in earlier telegrams). Lord Roseb&rry returns to political life shortly.

The officers of the French fleet have declined the banquet proffered by the Lord Mayor of London.

Sir J. Gorst considers that the success of the labour party in New Zealand and New Wales-will encourage tbe movement in England, and force candidates at the general elections to give distinct pledges ; so that the next Parliament will be unable to avoid legislating on labour questions. It is reported that Messrs Dillon and O’Brien have persuaded four Irish members to secede from Mr Parnell.
