The Bant of England returns published to-day show the total reserve to be <£19,436,000, showing an increase of <£678,000 as compared with the previous week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 46 08 per cent. Three months bills are discounted at 2 per cent. Consols 95, ex div;; Eew Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 102|-; 3| per cent ditto, 94|. New Zealand iong-berried wheat, market quiet, at 42s 6d. Sellers of off-coast cargoes are asking 42a 6(3, but buyers will not give more than 425. Canterbury mutton, 4|d per lb; Wellington, 4d; Canterbury lamb, sd; beef, hind-quarters, sd; forequarters, 3|d. New Zealand hemp, good quality, ,£22 5s per ton. At auction sales the demand for kauri gum is brisk; fine selected transparent fetched <£9 10s; good hard amber, £8 2s 6d; chips, £3 5s 6d. Adelaide wheat is weaker at 43s 6cl; Victorian also is weaker at 42s 6d. German sugar 13s 3d, market fiat; Java 15a, nominal. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.h. in Clyde, 47s 6d. Peeling in the city is disturbed, owing to Messrs Christobal de Murrietta and Company, a South American and Spanish firm of merchants, making an unexpected demand of £400,000 upon guarantors. Tallow is dull ; fine mutton is worth 27s 3d, and good beef 25s 9d per cwt. Frozen Meat.—Mutton market unchanged. Lamb market weaker. Pxime blew Zealand lambs are worth 6A per lb. Beef market quiet. New Zealand beef, hind-quarters, is worth 6d per lb, nominal value. Other quotations unchanged since last telegram.
