Mastekton, July 19. KNIGHTS OP LABOUR. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a branch of the Knights of Labour Union in Masterton was held.in the Temperance Hall on Saturday evening last, and was attended by about eighty persons. The Chairman briefly stated the object of the meeting, and then called upon the convener, who explained that the question had been called in consequence of correspondence that had taken place be* tween Mr W. M'Lean, of Wellington, and Mr A. W. Hogg, of Masterton. He stated that the organisation was rapidly spreading and advised the people of Masterton not to be behindhand in the matter. Mr A. W. Hogg followed at considerable length, and made nothing more nor less than a stump political speech, with’a wail to the working men for support in the coming election, and a very broad hint to the . Liberal Party that he would like to ba asked to come forward in their interest. Mr D’Arcy then moved—" That an Assembly of the Knights of Labour be formed in Masterton, and that the organiser be invited to attend next Saturday for that purpose.” Seconded by Mr H. Marsh and carried, about forty hands being held up for the resolution. At the close of the meeting about thirty persons enrolled themselves as members. Mr D’Arcy was appointed Secretary pro tern.
