AKAROA JUBILEE COMMITTEE.
A meeting of this Committee took place on Friday evening, in the Borough Council Chambers. There were present his Worship (in the chair), Messrs Noonan, Daly, Taylor, Beecher, Eodrigues, W. Grange and A. E. Watkins. The Mayor said that no information as to the movements of the fleet had reached them, and it was no use waiting for it. It would be far better to definitely decide what they should do on the day, and put the fleet altogether out of the question, though there was little doubt some of the squadron would bo present. Mr Daly ( moved —“ That, in addition to the proceedings in connection with the hoisting of the flag, a monster picnic be held, with fireworks and a ball in the evening.” Mr Rodrigues seconded this, and it was agreed to. Mr W. Grange proposed, and Mr Taylor seconded—- •* That the Mayor and Messrs Daly and Noonan form the Flagstaff Committee.” Carried. Mr Daly moved—" That the Mayor, Messrs Jacobson, E. B. Lelievre, T. Taylor, C. Brown, and A. E. Watkins form a Picnic Committee, with power to add to their number.” Carried. Mr Grange moved that Messrs Daly, Taylor, Jacobson, Watkins, and himself form a Committee for carrying out the dance in the evening. It was also resolved to start collecting at once, and to obtain the Oddfellows’ Hall for August 11. The meeting then adjourned to Tuesday next, when it is hoped definite news re the flqct will have been received.
