WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waimate Borough Council was held on Monday night; present—His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Wall, Dngdale, Watt, Jones, Cameron, Forsbrook, and Mitchell. The following correspondence was received and dealt with:— From the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, enclosing estimates of receipts and expenditure for the year ending March 31, 1888. Received. Prom Mrs W. Williams, asking that the amount of her iates be allowed to stand over for the present. Granted. Communications were received from the Jubilee Committees at Timatu and Christchurch. It was decided that His Worship the Mayor convene a public meeting to enquire what should be done to commemorate the occasion. A letter was received from Mr G. E. Freeman, asking to be allowed to take charge of the Borough Pound for the remainder of the late Poundkeeper’s term. Granted. The approximate income of the Borough, commencing March 31, 1887, for twelve months, amounted to £1321 12s 4d. The tender of Mr J. Dooley for the three sections drainage, dry earth manure, at 17s 9d, was accepted for five years. It was proposed, seconded, and duly carried —“ That the Recreation Reserve be let by tender instead of day work, for clearing.” It was resolved —“ That John Ellen receive a month’s notice to terminate his engagement with the Council.” Accounts amounting to £55 4s 7d were passed for payment. The following tenders were accepted for sections in Knottingley Park Reserve:— Section No. 5, E. J. Marshall, 15s 9d per acre per annum; sections Nos. 7 and 8, M. Healey, at 12s 6d and 16s 6d per acre per annum respectively. Councillors Dngdale and A. Watt were added as members to the Works Committee. The meeting then adjourned.
