CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —Professor Hutton has carefully avoided answering the main points taken up in my letter. He disclaims the authorship of the proposal, which is a minor question, but at the same time makes it obvious that he is an ardent advocate of the scheme. He does not strengthen his position by showing that the school is to provide training for half a dozen branches. Mechanical engineers and architects are not so overburdened with work as to warrant a large increase to their professions. I deny the accuracy of the statement that “ native talent has never yet had a chance of learning the professionand I disclaim the sympathy for “foreigners,” which Professor Hutton tries to fix on me. On the contrary, I am like himself, a thorough-going Protectionist. Only, let us be fair all round. Why import “foreign” professors and exclude foreign professional men! —l am, Ac., CAUTION.
