COMMERCIAL.

Lyttelton Times Office, Wednesday Evening. LIVE STOCK MARKET. The supplies of stock sent to the Addington -market were hardly up to the average, and the attendance of buyers and others was not large. Sheep.—The number of fat sheep penned was somewhat limited, but proved quite sufficient for the requirements of the trade. A very fair demand was experienced for mutton of superior quality, and at the opening of the sale biddings for this description were pretty brisk. Taking the market on the whole we cannot record any increase in values, but for good lines of cross-breds a satisfactory enquiry continues, and late prices are maintained. The better lines of cross-bred sold at from 9s to 13s 6d. Medium and inferior lots, ewes and wethers, brought from 63 to 6s. In merinos, only one or two lots of indifferent quality were on offer, and were not sufficient to give any indication of the state of the market for mutton of this class. The average price per lb for mutton remains at lid, though some few lots realised as much as l£d. Only some half dozen lines of store sheep, mostly culls, were penned. One fair line of cross-bred ewes brought 4s ; cull cross-bred ewes from 2s 3d to 2s 6d; and merinos at Is 7dCattle. —As at last week’s sale, a better demand was noticeable for beef of good and prime quality, and the advance in prices reported last week' was maintained. Inferior qua’ity, of which there is always too large a proportion on offer, is very dull of sale, with no alteration in late low values. Steers and cows of good quality realised from £6 10s to £8 15a. We quote beef at from 17s to 20s per 1001 b, Very few store cattle were on offer, and but a very small amount of business was transacted. The dairy cows yarded were chiefly of old and inferior sorts, for which there is no demand whatever. ' Pros.—Another numerous entry of pigs came forward. Except for first-class “haconers" there is very little enquiry, and for these prices range from 30s to 40s. CUSTOMS REVENUE. The following Customs revenue was collected yesterday Spirits, £lO7 5s sd; tobacco, £7; wine, £35 7s 3d; tea, £47 13s 4d; sugar, £24 7s Id; goods by weight, £471 s 3d; ad valorem, £18211s; other duties, £l9 Is 6d; total, £47016s lOd.
