RANGIORA SHOW.

The fifteenth annual Shaw of the Northem Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Baagiora os Nov. 6, under the most unfavourable conditions. Hitherto the Association kits been remarkably lucky as regards weather, hut on this occasion they were treated to a thorough wet day, which completely spoilt what would hare otherwise been one ol the best Show* ever held under their auspices. The district being pre-eminently an agricultural and pastoral one. the liveliest interest b always taken in the exhibition, and the disappointment occasioned by the tad weather mast have been felt very keenly, more particularly by the farming community. The usual busy appearance of the town on Show morning was almost entirely wanting, and a stranger coming into the place would hardly have observed that there was anything out of the common going on. Very few visitor* were brought is by the trains, and at no one time daring the day could there have been more than 300 people on the Show Ground, Mr Bass' paddock in Ashby street was, as formerly, the locality of the gathering, and the general arrangement of the ground could hardly have been imnroved upon, the Ground Committee ana Class Stewards haring worked hard, and. without doubt, successfully. to give entire satisfaction to both exhibitors and the general pabUe. A publican's booth, under the superintendence of Mr J. Roberts, of the Junction Hotel, Kangicra. and » confectioner’s booth, belonging to Mr Robinson,cf Christchurch, were on Use field, but it is almost needless to say that their takings were anything but satisfactory. A large marquee was erected for the luncheon, but it let in the rain so badly that the tables could not be laid, and the Judges and others assisting at the show had to W on.'eyed to the Junction Hotel for luncheon The nuiaher of entries this year exceeded that of any former year by eight, and despite the weather, nearly all the exhibits were brought forward. In comparison with last year sheep and cattle showed a falling of. the former rather materially so. This is fully accounted for by the fact of Mr I’ C. Threlkcld being unable to make his usual number of entries. The decrease in the two section* tdferml to was, however, made up for by an increase of about 3d entries in the classes for homes. Ibis department being the loading feature of the show. All the Other sections were about on a jar with hut year’s, and the exhibits, taken as a whole, were certainly up to Use average of excellence. The dairy produce was as Don attractive feature, the butter ocing most tastefully got up. Local industries were fairly represented.
