RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Municipal Chambers, Bangiora, on Friday evening; present Councillors Blackett, Stephens, Gone, Good, Boyd, Maiming, and Nicholls. An apology was made for the absence of the Mayor, and Councillor Blackett was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE, The following was read and dealt with s From the Eangiora Fire Brigade, soliciting the Council’s presence at an entertainment to bo given on Boxing Day in aid of the Brigade funds. It was agreed to comply With the request! From the Borough Eeturning-Offlcer, stating that Mr A. Ivory had been reelected Mayor. Prom the Mamlcvillo and Eangiora Boad Board, declining to share the cost of shingling the West Town belt. From William Stephenson, in reply to the Council’s communication re his horse sold in thejjSound, and stating that unless the Council agreed to pay him a certain portion of the money realised by the sale, ho would toko legal proceedings against thorn. It was resolved to lay this letter on the table. From thoiSecretary of tho Commission re unemployed, and from Mr A. D. Austin, District Engineer, relative to the provision of work for the unemployed at Waiau. A letter of thanks from the Commission for the use of tho Council Chamber for their recent sitting was also read. From the Superintendent of the Eangiora Fire Brigade, reporting upon the fire which occurred at Messrs Boyd and Heir’s workshops on Nov. 23. RETORTS. The Works Committee reported that they had inspected the creek in Brook street and the East Town belt, and would recommend that a brick or concrete culvert be put down either in a straight line from the north side of Brook street to the east side of the Bust Town belt, or across Brook street. Tho work carried out in the former way would cost about JJIOO, and in the latter from JW6 to MO. After a discussion on the report it was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Boyd, that tho oulvert be put down in tho first direction suggested, subject to tho approval of the Hoad Board. The Surveyor reported that no tender for the purchase of tho grass in the Maria Andrew's park had been received. That M. Skloark’s tender for the supply of dog collars for 1885 had been accepted. That he had collected over J S4O rates, but would have to sue for some outstanding. FINANCIAL. The receipt* of the month were reported to be J&aff 12b Od, and the bank balance jg3sß 10s. Accounts amounting to wCSB 4s (Jd wore passed for payment. NOTICE ON MOTION. Councillor Stephens gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting of the Council— 0 That the by-law relating to kerbiug and channels be rescinded, andthat for the future all the money received for rent of the Borough Eescrve be spent in permanent works in the Borough.” UiSCKLLANKODS. The next meeting of the Council falling on Boxing Day, it was resolved to hold it on Dec. U), It was resolved to take over a right-of-way running through a portion of the Ven Archdeacon Dudley’s property into Church street north. Tho Chairman suggested the advisability of making a motion to tho effect that the Inspector of Weights and Measures lie invited to visit Eangiora at least once a year to adjust scales, dc. Tho majority of the Councillors wore of opinion that a motion of tho kind was unnecessary, as the Inspector had stated his willingness to come at any time on receipt of a request from five residents of tho place.
