(Before Caleb Whitefoord, Esq., E.M.) Cruelty to Animals. — A. Morton was charged, on the information of the police, with unlawfully and maliciously wounding a cow with shot. Alter a considerable number of witnesses bod been examined, the Magistrate decided that there was not sufficient evidence to commit the accused for trial, and dismissed the case.—John White was charged with a similar offence. The police stated that they were unable to prove malice in tills os in the other case, and withdrew the charge. The two accused were then charged by the police with cruelty to animals, and were each fined J 23 with costs of Court, with a severe caution from the Bench. Sergeant Moricc, of Christchurch, conducted the prosecution, and Mr Joynt defended.
