ROAD BOARDS.

KOWAI. A special meeting of this Board was held on Eriday last, at which all the members were present.—The draft of the twentieth annual report was read and considered, and adopted. The statement of accounts and balance-sheet were also submitted, and agreed to.—Tenders were considered for the following contracts: —l66, making road south-east cornet of Sefton Eeserve ; 167, Sloan and Clark's road, altering gradients; and 168, cleaning north branch of Saltwater creek.— Resolved M'CaVs tender for contract 166, for making road at the south-east corner of the Sefton Eeserve, be accepted; that fresh tenders be called for contract 107; and that Mr G.TCyrrison's tender for contract 168, cleaning north branch of Saltwater creek, be accepted."—Mr Thomas Hanna interviewed the Board, and requested to have the drain on the south side of the Mount Grey road cleaned out. He was informed that the Board could not depart from the rule, that those interested must contribute half the cost. Mr Hanna then asked whether the Board would give permission to the parties interested to clean out the said drain, and received the Board's consent. —Mr John Rollingson saw the Board, and objected to the north branch of the Saltwater creek being cleaned out unless the bar was first removed at the Saltwater creek bridge, and the Saltwater creek proper cleaned out from the bar to its junction with the north branch, some 85 chains additional work. He was informed that the creeks referred to were Government property, and that the boundaries of sections only extended to the banks of the said creeks; that, in consequence, the Board, in all probability, would have no occasion to enter on his land, although they had a perfect right to do so, if it were necessary.—Mr James Young waited on the Board, relative to the notice he had received to turn the water he was letting down on to the Upper Sefton Road into its proper channel, and also prevent the accumulation of shingle from his land on to the road in question, and into the creek which crosses the same. He promised to at once comply with the wishes of the Board, and take steps to turn the water into its natural channel, and to stop the shingle from accumulating in the creek, &u.—Mr John Dowds also saw the Board relative to the same subject, and was of what had been agreed upon with Mr Young, and also that Mr James Vallanee, sour., had had a similar notice served r.pon him to that sent to Mr Young.—lt was resolved—- " That the present Banger recohe notice that his services are not required, and that Mr W. H. Gibbs be appointed in his stead." —The Board then adjourned.
