AKAROA.

[from ode .own coeeesponuent.] April 2G. As expected by Captain Edwin, the nights have »been frosty (though not sharp), and the tide 3 lower than they have been for years. The sea has been heavy inside the harbour, although there has been no wind. It has become pretty calm again, but the ebb tide rushed down with such force last night as to produce an unusual roaring. The Akaroa came round for more grass seed last night, making the second trip this week. The Antelope is up the harbour. The German Bay School picnic was a great success yesterday. The weather was all that could be desired, and people thronged to the school grounds from far and near, and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. In the evening there was an entertainment, consisting of song 3 and readings. The usual dance brought the holiday to a close. There seems to be very little interest taken in the Queen's Birthday sport 3, which is the more remarkable because there is so large a sum in hand to start with. The Resident Magistrate's Court has fortunately had very little business lately. A civil case was to have come on yesterday, but it was settled out of Court. Mr B. White has the contract for rebuilding Mr Brown's bakery establishment that was burnt down a few weeks ago. The new building will be occupied by Mr Wyatt.
