VOLUNTEER CHURCH PARADE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —ln your to-day’s issue re tho above, you say the force was headed by the Railway Band. This is incorrect. It was tho late City Guards Band, who kindly volunteered their services, and right well did they perform their duties. Is it too much to suggest to Colonel Lean and his officers that stops bo taken to make the new Garrison Bftnd whftt it should hesecond to .none in New Zealand. Surely there is ample musical talent in Christchurch for doing so- Why our City should bo behind Oamaru, Dunedin and Invercargill I cannot understand, unless it is that in those towns musicians rocoivo more encouragement and inducement. This I do know, that in Oamaru the officers and men of the Volunteer Force have done much towards making their hand what it undoubtedly is (os certified by competent judges), the best band in the South Island. I trust our Volunteers will take an interest in their band, and follow such an excellent example. It should ba tho pride of every volunteer to be able to boast of his band. —-I am, Ac., , ,„ „ C.
