CONCERT AT KAIAPOI.

On Monday evening Mrs C. M. Brooke gave a vocal and instrumental concert at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kaiapoi. Mrs Brooke made her debut, and was well received. She sang two ballads, Hutchison’s “ Dream Faces,” and Pinsuti’s “ Laddie.” This lady possesses alight soprano voice,of considerable compass, and, although not .very powerful, it is well controlled and very tuneful. Twinning’s pianoforte “Air and Variations ” byYilbao. Mr Stringer sang “The Skipper’s

Flag” (Barri), and a vocal duet by Dr Ovondon and Mr Champion, “ Tho Moon has raised her Lamp above” (Benedict) was well given. “ Tho Lost Rose of Summer,” by Mrs Champion, was one of the features of tho evening, and brought down tho house, tho last verse having to bo repeated. Miss Button sang with great success Bishop’s difficult song, “ Bid mo Discourse,” and in answer to a woll-morited encore gave Offenbach’s “ Love in Youth.” A vocal duet, “ O’er tho Hill, o’er tho Dale,” by Glover, tastefully sung by the Misses Button and Thompson, was re-demanded. Mr Brooke sang Hutchison’s “ Ehren, on tho Rhinoand two vocal quartettes, “Sweet and Low” (Barnby) and “Good night. Beloved ” (Pinauti), wore given in a very creditable manner by Mesdamos Brooke and Champion, Dr Ovendon and Mr Champion. Mr T. V.
