ILL-TREATMENT OF A CHILD.

The Star to-night has the following rumour:—" The police, acting on information supplied by a number of the inhabitants of South Dunedin, have brought to light a case of shocking ill-treatment of a child by its parent*. An information against the parents is to be laid, and the case will be adjudicated on by the City Bench. The ohild alleged to be ill-treated is a boy 7i years old. It is known that for several days he had his arms tied behind his back, so that he was unable to move them iu any way, and in that state he was looked up in an outhouse for hours at a stretch. During the stepmother's temporary absence coma neighbours gained an entrance into the bouse and removed the boy, whose condition is said to have been pitiable. He was in a high state of fever, was suffering from inflammation of one of the lungs; one of the bones of the left forearm had been recently fractured, and apparently was unset, and his back bore marks of recent bruises. The police, on becoming acquainted with the circumstances, had the boy examined by Dr de Zouohe, who ordered his removal to the Hospital, and is now attending him there."
