ROAD BOARDS.

LINCOLN. A meeting of this Board was held on Monday, March 5, all the members being present. —Correspondence was reads—From Mr J. Graban, objecting to the road by rural section 7415 being sold. From (he Selwyn County Council, re hospital and charitable aid funds. Agreed to.—From Courtenay Boad Board, enclosing cheque for half cost ot repairing boundary road.—From Messrs MTnlyre and Lewis, enclosing account for surveying, &o. To be referred back for correction.— From Property Tax Department, advising having sent a statement of the value of property in the district. To be open for inspection daring office hours.—The tender of William Stevenson for culvert, Prebbleton and Halswell road, was accepted, and that of J. Graban for removing soil from Davies' drain. The tender of William Phillip* for leasing reserve ot Weedon was accepted conditionally.—The Clerk’s report was read and approved,—The strengthening of FttSseU’e bridge was ordered to be carried out as recommended by the Overseer.—The paysheet, amounting to £6616s lid, was passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. MOUNT SOMEBB. At the meeting of the Mount Somers Boad Board, held on Monday last, there were present—Messrs A. E. Peaobe (Chairman), Walker, Edson, and M'Olimont. The Clerk reported that he had collected £167 4s Od of the outstanding rates to date, and produced the bank book for inspection.—The words book having been submitted and examined, the Olerk was requested to balance the different ward accounts, in accordance with the resolutions passed by the Board on April 8 last—lt was resolved—" That the County Council be requested to make application under the Beads and Bridges Oonstraotion Act for a sum of money sufficient to construct (hose portion# of (he Ashburton Gorge road whore necessary, according to the estimate furnished by (his Board on July 4 lost. Mr Walker undertook to bring under tho notice of the County Engineer the state of the crossing over the water'race on the Tramway road, near Mr M'Olimont'e section.—A letter from the Property Tax Commissioner woe read,—lt was resolved-” That the Chairman be requested to write to the Minister of Publio Works, reminding him of hi* promise to call for tenders for the construction of the extension of the Mount Somers line of railwav. and to oek him what dsoisioa he bad some to re taking it across the south branch of the Ashburton rivcr.-Several mill accounts were poised for payment, and the meeting adjourned. Resolved-—" That tinder* be invited for tb* work,” Messrs Edwin Famham (Mayor of Kaiapoi) and Woodford waited on the Board, representing the Kaiapoi Borough Council, and stated that tenders bad been invited for land suitable for a public eemetery. The only Under received was from Mr Isaac Wilson, offering •U acres near the girder bridge for £6O (sixty pounds) per acre. The Council bad tested the land, aad found it very suitable lor the purpose, and reoomaieuded that Mr Wilson's tender should be accepted. Mr Hopkins proposed, and Mr Elder ssoonded—"That tots Board agree to pay ball the cost, and that the matter be left in the hands of the Kaiapoi Borough Council to arrange.”—Resolved—” That notice be served on al! persons under agreement with the Board to olean out all oreeke and drains, in accordance with their agreements.”—The Surveyor woe authorised to have the following work* done!—■ To clear out the creek from the river to the end of the tram rood; to level and improve the formation of Hadden road; to repair the footpath in Sneyd street, and to obtain a suitable safe for the Board’s use. Resolved—" That the Registrar of Dogs ascertain the number of dogs kept by each resident in the district, and whore they are not registered to lay an information with the police; that Mr W. Lynskey’e time for completing his contract for the footpaths be extended for two months; that Mr Denton’s tender be declined, and that Mr Coup’s tender for blocks Nos. 8,4, and 6be accepted, and that bo be allowed to take up blocks 1 and 2 at the same rental; bat in the event of his declining to do eo fresh tenders to be invited next Board meeting.”—Tenders were decided upon, and accounts amounting to £4B 8s Id poised and ordered to be paid. ASHLEY. The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held at the Boad Board office, Ashley, on March 1; present—Meesrs Diok (Chairman), NioboUs, Hodgson, and Barker. Letters were read; —From Ur Myles Campbell, asking permission to place a gate on Tod’s road, as he intended to erect a fence from this road westerly; that if the fence was erected on the Blino it would cross and re-orossthe road is several places, but if permission was given to place a gate on Tod’s road he could take the fence in a straight line and leave the formed road as it is for the present. The request was granted.—From the Property Tax Commissioner, f« property roll.—The Chairman reported that ha had received a tender to rent the Boad Board cottage on Dixon’s road for twelve months, but he considered it too low, and did not accept it. The action was approved. —The Clerk’s report was read and considered. With reference to the drain through reserve 2226 on the Birch Hill road, it was decided to block up this drain near the Birch Hill road, and lead the water into the gravel pit. Continuation of the formation of No. 2 road deferred for tho present. —Mr Joyce's applisation to get planks to put over a drain on Binolair’s road. The Clerk was instructed to make farther enquiries into the matter.—The Clerk was also instructed to write to the Minister of Lands re the farther construction of the Kaka Pass road.—The matter of clearing gorse off tho various roods being fully considered, it was resolved to enforce clause 98 of the “ Public Works Act, 1576,” relating to the same; and that tenders be called to grab up and remove all gorse growing on the roads where parties have received due notice to clear the same but have failed to do so, tho work to be let in sections opposite the respective properties.— The following works were authorised to be dona:—Bo-forming and shingling part of Binolair’s road when the gorse is cleared; small cutting west side of the Okuku, near Kennedy’s Bush road, west of Feathers’ road, to be repaired.—The Clerk was instructed to get deeds made out for several roads in the district, and to write to parties who have got any deeds or documents belonging to the Board to forward them as soon as possible. —The Chairman was authorised to make arrangements re fixed deposit, which matures on March 22.—Accounts amounting to £4O 2s lOd were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. WAIPAEA. The monthly meeting of the Waipara Boad Board wae held at the office, Waikari, on Monday, March 6, Messrs J. D. Lance (Chairman), T. Sanderson, and W. Farkerson forming the Committee.—Mr G. M'Lean came in asking if the Board oould do something to the front of tho Great Northern Hotel. It was agreed to place about 15 yards of shingle per chain, Mr M'Lean to pay half the cost. He thanked the members and withdrew.—Mr Digby’s road, about which he had written to the Board last month, wae then discussed. Mr Sanderson said he had been to it, accompanied by (he Surveyor, and was of opinion it would take more money (bon Mr Digby’s estimate. He had spoken to Ur Digby asking him to defer it for five months, to which he had agreed, it being winter work. They thanked Mr Sanderson for the trouble taken and the arrangement made.— The tender of Mr Beeves to paint the gate boards as shown was accepted.—The Clerk was instructed to have fifty painted ready for use when required.—A letter from Mr J, M'Lean, applied lor leave to erect a gate on the Cemetery road. Permission granted.—A letter was received from the Commissioner of Property Tax, Wellington, asking that any inaccuracies in the roll might be detected. The Board, after looking through it, asked the Chairman to communicate with (he Commissioner.—The statement of rates paid was (hen gone through, tho amount £1274 2s 6d being all received within £8 9s 6d. The Collector said it was principally from one person, who had distinctly told him he should not pay any rotes at the time it was levied. He wae told to obtain the money, or to summons him this month.—Regarding the number of members to constitute the future Board, * unanimous resolution to leave (he number as at present was passed.—The Surveyor's report was read.—Accounts were then passed : Receipts during the month, £24 6s 4d; pay sheet, £67 16s 6d. The Board then-adjourned. AMUBI. The ordinary mooting of this Board was held at Waiau on March 6; present—Messrs George W. M'fiae (Chairman), D. Batherfobd, and James Maofarlane. Correspondence was read i—Prom manager of Union Bank ot Australia, acknowledging receipt of moneys.—From Charitable Aid Board, with statement of receipts and expenditure.—From Mr G. 8. Cooper, calling attention to proclamation, altering boundaries of Cheviot County. —From same, list of road* proclaimed main road* in Amuri district—From Property Tax Commissioner, accompanied by statement of values for the district, and requesting assistanos of Board in correcting errors therein, if any. The Clerk was Instructed to write to the Under-georetary of Public Works, calling his attention to of gazetting Amur; Boad Board district boundaries. Also liking for a copy of report of surrey of Harunui traffic bridge, as an impression exists that it is unsafe. The Clerk was instructed to forward list of errors in valuation list to Property Tax Commissioner. —Tha Overseer's report* were then read.— The Clerk wae instructed to call for tenders for the purchase of one ot the Board's teams with' out and harness; also to send final notices to defaulting ratepayer*.—^The Board Stated Mr Donald Davidson as Returningw.—lt was decided to hold the ordinary meeting! of the Board on the first Wednesday in the month in future, commencing with next meeting.—The Clerk wa* instructed to prepare an Electoral 8011, and to publicly notify in the district that he would attend at (heoffice every alternate Wednesday fortran*notion of business. The Clerk was alio requested to find seeurlty as required by tile "Boad Boards Act, 1882.” Account#, amounting to £B9O, were passed for payment. —Mr Macfarlane tendered hie resignation, which wa* accepted.—The Board, adjourned to April 4.
