ABHBURTON r. TIMABU. A team from the Aib burton CO. r)tay«d against an eleven of the Timaru Club on the ground of the latter on Saturday last. Tho play all round was fairly good, and the match well contested. Foots and Denshire, on the Afhbnrton side, made tho best batting appearance amongst their eleven, while Kaston, Shepherd, Jones, and Cliff were most prominent for Timaro. The bowling was fair on both sides, and the fielding not inferior. Ashburtou lost the match by three wiokets, though their first innings gave them »majority of 31 over their opponents. In their second innings, however, they fell off, and the Timaro men picked up their lee-way. Accustomed to a socoanut matting wicket the Aahburton men were iosreely at home on the Timaru turf.
