HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held an ordinary meeting yesterday afternoon. The following members were presentThe Mayor of Christchurch (in the chair), Mr W. Montgomery, Mr G. Booth, the Mayor of Sydenham, and Mr J. G. Hawkes. PEISONEE TUDBALL, A report from the medical staff as to the health of the prisoner Tudball, a patient in the Hospital, was read, and recommended, that the patient should be continued under medical treatment, he still suffering from considerable functioned derangement of thahoartand of hyperesthesia of the nervous system. The Board resolved to send the reporhto the Gaoler at Lyttelton. HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. The Hospital Committee reported that during the past fortnight 30 patients had been admitted to the Hospital and 37 discharged, leaving 76 patients in the institution. Curing the same period four deaths had occurred. The Committee recommended a* follows That certain repairs should at one* be effected to the grates in the wards, by which the consumption of coals will be considerably reduced; that the matron’s sittingroom should bo papered and the passages restained ; and that the lobbies and entrance# the wards be whitewashed and the kitchen distempered. i Mr Booth remarked that the large number of deaths could be partly accounted for by patients being brought in when moribund. A report from the House Steward was read. It contained a number of recommendations, and stated that certain improvements bad been completed. Mr Booth recommended that the arrival of Dr Skae should be waited for before some of the works recommended should be undertaken. The other works had been. done. BBOENT APPOINTMENTS. A letter from the Colonial Secretaiy was read, approving of the recent appointments. WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL. A letter from the Wellington City Council was read, asking for information as to the management of the hospital, more particularly as to economic administration, &0., the Wellington Council having the local hospital entirely under their control. The Secretary was instructed to forward the information asked for. SUPPLY OP DEUGS, &C. A letter from Messrs Kempthome, Prosser and Co., was read, stating the terms on which they would supply all drugs, &c., required for the institution. After some discussion the matter was remitted to the Hospital Committee to report Upon. ; ; APPEBNTIOINO OEPHANS. The master of the Orphanage forwarded a list of boys whom he recommended for apprenticeship. The matter was remitted to the Orphanage Committee to inquire and report upon.
