The ship Mallowdale for Newcastle, Dido, schooner, for Nelson, and Amaranth for Manukan, cleared at the Customs yesterday. The barque Arrogaute left Sydney on Jan. 18 for Newcastle, there to load for this port. Messrs Cnff and Graham advertise the Tui for Wellington via Kaikoura on Saturday, and the brig Dover for the Bluff, The s.s. Southern Cross arrived off Gore Bay on Friday last, and lay there until 8 a.m. yesterday, when she ran back to port, owing to the south-east gaio preventing her discharging her cargo, and arrived at 2.15 p.m. The s.s. Wakatipu, Captain Wheeler, left Sydney on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. Had fine weather acrose, Wellington being reached at 6 p.m. on Feb. 3 ; sailed at 5.30 p.m, on Tuesday. Experienced strong head winds and eea down the coast to arrival in harbour at i p.m. yesterday. The Wakatipu landed passengers and 100 tons of cargo, and sailed for Port Chalmers last night.

The barque Stag arrived in harbour on Tuesday night. She is from Kaipara bound to Tiumru, Captain Boss reports that he left Kaipara on Jan. 22, and arrived off Timaru on Jan. 29, when he was compelled to put to sea again owing to the heavy gale blowing. He fetched back to the port on Monday last, but was ordered to stand away to sea, owing to the heavy weather, and as his cargo had got loose iu the hold he ran for this port to secure it before attempting to make Timaru again. The Adelphoi reached Newcastle on Jan, 21, and the Southern Cross on Jan. 25. The Canny Scott caUed from Newcastle for here on Jan. 24.

On the recent passage of the Sparrowhawk from. Trinity Bay, Queensland, Captain Masters reports that on the 13th ult. he passed close to a reef not narked on the chart, and just outside the line of soundings. The position of the reef is 15 miles north-east of Cape Bowling-green lighthouse, and, as already stated, it is outside the line of soundings. —Melbourne Argue. The barques Finder and Waratah were berthed at the Tunnel wharf yesterday. Intelligence has been received from Cape Campbell that the ship Sonthninster has broken up, and wreckage is strewing the beach. Mr Boardman, acting for the underwriters concerned, has salved a large quantity of cargo, namely, 2000 cases kerosene, 20 organs, ana between 200 and 300 cases miscellaneous merchandise. Hr Boardman bought the hull of the ship on account of the Sonth British for 170. and has salved about £7OO worth of cargo.— Wellington Post. The Union Co.'s steamship Arawata, Captain Underwood, arrived from Melbourne vi 4 Sonth, bringing the inward English mail rl& Suez, at noon yesterday, in addition to S 3 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. Hr L. C. Hiller, her purser, furnishes the following report of the run: Bailed from Hobson’s Bay at noon on Jan. 80; cleared Fort Phillip Heads at 2.25 p m„ and passed Swan Island at 0 a.m. next day. Experienced fresh southerly and south-west winds across, and passed the Solanders at noon on Fob. 3, reaching Bluff harbour at 5 p.m. {landed 30 tons of cargo, and sailed at 4.30 a.m. Feb. 4, reaching Port Chalmers at 3 p.m.; left there at 8.30 p.m, and arrived in harbour at noon.
