ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The usual meeting of the Board was held on Febi 8 j present—Messrs Wilson, Hadfleld, Fleeter, Phupott, and Bligh.—Mr J< L. Wil», son was unanimously elected Chairman' far the ensuing year.—Toe Clerk was instructed to write to the Engineer of the Drainage Board, and ask if permission had been given to any one to remove earth from'the side of thei drain on Philpott’s road.—Alettor was received from Watt and Co., ip reference to purchasing a road. The Chairman was requested to obtain a legal opinion as to .whether ihe Board have power to sell.—A letter .was received from the Biooairton Road Boarid, asking the Board to form a footpath at, the side of Norman’s road, in continuation, pf one beingformed by them from Fendaltown.— The Glerk was instructed to inform them that the footpath will be carried out at the first favourable opportunity.—The Surveyor wtis instructed to Have the footpath in Papanui on west side kerbed with. wood.—A letter was received from inhabitants in Green’s lane, asking the Board to sMngle same. The Surveyor was instructed to call tenders for the work, returnable in a* week.—lt was re- ' solved to take steps for adopting the Local Elections Act. —lt was also solved to divide the district into wards. The Clerk* was instructed to write to the Heathoote Road Board re lamp on Starimore Bridge.—The Surveyor was instructed to make arrangements with the contractor far clearing out a further portion of the Kapitone creek.—That in any portion of the dutrict requiring asphalting, halflthe cost of Curbing -and asphalting most first be paid totho Board by those whose properties front upon the -same.—Accounts, to the amount of £ll2l 8s Bd, were passed and ordered to.be paid.
