The s.s. Ringarooma, which called in on her way to Wellington from Melbourne yesterday, had on board 11 head of splendidly bred short-horned cattle, the property of Mr C. Simpson, of Bainesse Farm, Foxton, Manawatu. Mr Simpson has purchased them at the late annual sales of Messrs Robinson Bros, and S. Gardiner, of Colac, Yictoria, and has certainly made a fine selection, each animal showing very high breeding. In addition to the present number, Mr Simpson purchased others, which he will bring over in a short time.

The animals comprise Mr S. Gardiner’s celebrated prize bull Matilda’s Double Brunswick, which took the first prize at the Victorian Society’s Agricultural Show, 1878, at which time 800 gs was refused for him, the owner’s reserve being IOOOgs. A white bull, Earl of Alvie, by sth Earl of Derrimut, by Earl of Geneva (31,068), which was purchased by Messrs Robertson Bros for 1650g5, he being of the pure Bates’ blood. A red cow by Ean of Geneva (31,068), dam Red Duchess, by Duke of Brunswick (25,937), with calf at foot, by 22nd Duke of Derrimut. A young heifer, five months old, by Oxford Cherry Duke (32,016), the latter being bought by Messrs Robertson Bros for 2500g5, dam Moss Rose 4th, by 4th Duke of Derrimut, besides five three-year-old heifers, by Marquis of Lome, full brother to Duke of Alvie, all in calf to the 25th Duke of Derrimut.

By tho same steamer also arrived a very valuable shipment of Leicester and Merino sheep from Tasmania. Of tho Leicestors there were 20 ewes and 1 ram, all splendid animals, bred by Mr Thomas Gibson, wellknown as one of the most successful breeders of sheep in Tasmania. These are for Mr R. R. Pitt, or Temuka. The merino comprised 21 rams and 20 ewes, bred by Mr Lyttelton, in Tasmania, where he has been residing, and tj £- 8 t “J™« toem to hi ß station, Rokoby, itakaia. These are all grand sheeop, possessing the true qualities of tho merino, and are the progeny of that ram Sir Thomas, bred by _Mr _ Gibson, The whole of the sheep arrived in excellent order, not appearing to have suffered in tho least from tho effects of confinement on tho passage across.
