There were 7S exhibits, mostly 'first quality. l Oakdep end -Brown,- Bprton and M'Master, and the Bon B. Campbell were the chief exhibitors. In the class rams of any age. the former’s exhibits were splendid, wellvoolltd animals, which took first and second prizes. The Hon B. Camp-; ' bell’s, was an excellent sheep of good symmetry, and oombiniog eize with good quality wool. The same exhibitor took third prize ’ with a good sheep, Oikden and Btownejieoond with an animal nearly equal to the first- In two>tootbs OekdeO and Browne obtained first and second prize* With animals combining fine wool and compact oarcaiei In the best pair of two-tooth* the same firm were first and second AWito symmetrical sheep. Gillies and —gtieet were the champion* in most classes, and the principal exhibitors. The exhibits ehofed good quality,, but QiUiep ‘"and Straet’e sheep were excellent, although oemo did nob show the characteristics of the pure Leicester breed. otosr exhibits were far above tod “average; heifer class brought .out seme good exhibits, and Peter On’s entry carried off too paun. Bhc showed beautiful symmetry and breeding. The second and third honours went respectively to Craig and Ghryrtal. ‘ The yearling heifer class again put three prim to' the credit of Fleming and Hfidley, although the other exhibit* were above the average. For (he best oow with two of her offspring, Fleming and Hedley again scored a, win,Oraig doming second with an exhibit little inferior.; In general cattle, exoloeive of shorthorns and' Ayrtoires, there was a good show, and Fleming and Hedley again took the bulk of toe prises. The exhibits of On, M'Gregor, and Duncan were very fine. The chow of thoroughbred horses was very good, and gave toe judges {great difficulty in deciding on the awards. In entires there Were seven entries. A. Paterson pulled off flrsl o&d second honours with Pertobe and Bndymion, but. the decision of the judges created a gnat deed of unfavourable comment. H. Gardiner’s Producer showed better form and far more breeding than Bndymion.- Paterson again took first prize for his yearling Colt, a splendid showy little animal, and Menlove second for bis exhibit, which shewed lots of breeding. Paterson, the undoubted champion exhibitor of blood stock, again took first prize in the broodmareolass withbismare Maid of the Mill, a grand upstanding animal with lots of breeding. Fleming and Hedley came second; and Gardiner’s Counters third. The dry mares, •one and two-year-old fillies, were a nice lot. The hack* showed in great force, and their jumping propensities were severely tested. This was the most attractive part of yesterday afternoon’s proceedings, and deservedly so, as it created great amusement. M'Kay’e Lottery, which took the prize, cleared 6ft 6in. The implement department was bat poorly represented, and there was nothing special exhibited. There were only two pigs on the ground. The poultry was large ia number, bat indifferent in quality. The dairy produce was a great feature, and brought oat numerous entries. Generally the exhibits were very good, and did credit to the dietriot. The cured meats were alio well got up. The grain portion of the Show was very attractive, and it brought out many excellent samples of seeds and cereals. This department deserves the encouragement it gets here, and the example might well be copied by other Show Committees. The sheep dogs were judged by practical trail work early in the morning, and many visited the trial. - ' The shorthorn cattle here are, with few exceptions, of rather ind ifferent quality. In the class for the best bull of any age, Threlkeld, of Flazton, took first honours, with Oomroander-in-Chief, and a special prize also. This splendid animal attracted much attention. Menlove’* second prize exhibit was a good and well grown one, but rather coarse, the bead not being attractive. In the data for tWtKyear-old holla the same animal- took first prize, and Craig’s exhibit second. .The iatter is rathcr light in the hind quarter. In yearlings, Craig's three exhibits palled off prizeß/ They aro all good animals. . The Commended exhibit is the best handler. In toe ciaia for ‘oo we, Menlove was first, with a {prend largeframed &nimal ; the other exhibits -s*ere fail! The two-year heifers exhibited by iCfealg we;C a good lot, as #«11 as his yearlings and coirtwith progeny. ■ f The great and crowning feature of the thaw was the draught stock, of which there was a magnificent display, which could scarcely be equalled in the Colony, The entires were a magnificent .lot, and tome people were disappointed that Boag’s Prince Charlie did not get first prize. He is a good horse, but had long odds in competition. The first prize-taker, Donaldson’s Banker, is a .rare model of symmetry and strength. Ben-. fraw jock, the second prize-taker is also a splendid animal. In three-year-olds Craig’s Waimota Jook, a well famished animal with plenty of good quality and bone was drat.. A very creditable exhibit by Fleming andJEtedley got second prize. In,two year-olds the prize: was carried off by John Macfarlene’s exhibit,: a promising colt with lots of power. The! other exhibits were mostly well grown, and promise well. In the yearlings ten showed up, and the contest for supremacy waa close. They weVe moitly well grown. The Hon W. Holmes took first, and in owner’s draught stock a speoiel first prize. The brood-mares made a fine display, and were a splendid eight. 'As 11 walked round the ring, it took a long time for toe judges to decide their respective merifsi'but Oir deservedly secured first prize; with' V fine symmetrical powerful exhibit •There-was little to choose between the second and third prize-takers. The dry mares were .alto a splendid lot. and the winner was a perfect picture/ doing the owner, Mr Menlove, credit. , Heseoared 6 second, and commended for two other animals, and the Hon M. Holme* took third. Menlove was again to the fore -with three year old fillies, his two exhibits, taking first and .third prizes. They were splendidly-bred Clydesdales, as was also Bomffirtb’c second prize exhibit. The two yearolds were represented by a dozen, and Dent took first prize. In yearlings, Fleming and Hedley pulled off tbo first and second. . The same firm hod all their own way in the three-year-old gelding class, sweeping everything before them, but in gelding* of any age, Menlove scored first, with Pratt second. For. the best pair of working mares or geldings, too Hon M. Holme! took first prize, and Fleming and Hedley second and third, with compact, powerful epebimenii The close for mares With their progeny produced a grand let, and first honours Fell to Menlove. Fleming and Hedley got second and a “highly commended ’’ for their exhibits. Menlove scored first honours for th« best filly in the yard, but Fleming and Hedley ’* exhibit ran her so olos# that a highly commended distinction was awarded her. 1-U _ , , In concluding my remarks, I would point opt the bad management of the Committee in allowing all except too prize-takers ra cattle, sheep, and light hone* to bo removed from the ground before the second day, as the public do not have an opportunity of seeing how tbe judges* decision* are arrived at. It would be better for all if too method of conducting the Obristohnroh Show was adopted hero. It ie also a mistake to allow the same animal to be entered in a number of classes. It creates confusion, and makes the entries ranch larger. In ; toe catalogue than they actually are. With all the defects toe hones and Ayrshire’cattle were better than then shown in any other part of the Colony. The other departments weg» not to the Obfistoburoh or Mmara exhibitions. , The Show-groundis situated on the-hilLon the which is riry picturesque. * . 5 AOGHEOATSPHIZB CUPS. , The following ll a list of the winners fif th® cups for the greatest prize takers in; toe various classes!
