LICENSING COURT.

OHEI3TOHUROH. Tuesday, Mabch is. (Before Q. L. Melliih, G. L. Lee, and B. J, 8. Harman, Eiqs ). Extba Babb,—The following applications for extra bare were granted George Beattie, Palace Hotel, three bars j J. W. Morton, Morton’s Hotel, one bar j J. O. Shepherd, White Hart Hotel, three bars; B. Hiorns, Central Hotel, one barj Jesse Hall, Eastern Hotel, one bar. Applications Refused.—Messrs Marshall ond Buckley renewed their opplication through Mr Oowliahaw, for the assurance that the Bench would grant a license to them on completion of an hotel which they intended to erect at the corner of Manchester street and the South town belt. Mr Oowlishaw pointed out the necessity that existed for a good hotel at the spot indicated near the railway. He produced plans of a very fine building which the applicants intended to put up—a building 140 feet long—if they obtained an assurance from the Bench that the license would be granted. The applicants would even promise to build the hotel of brick if necessary. The Bench said they could not give the assurance required. It was more than they had power to do. Mr Oowlishaw was afraid that unless such assurance was obtained there would be some difficulty in getting the capital invested for such a fine building. After some further discussion, the application was refused. This was all the business.
